Reasons you're not losing the weight you want to...

London Healthy Living - Attitude To Food Blog

If your health goals included losing weight this year, you're not alone! For many of us, achieving a balanced weight leaves us feeling frustrated ...whether you have a lot to lose or just those few last remaining pounds, here are three little tips that might help explain why it's not shifting as fast as you'd like it to...

Skipping breakfast is a bad idea... Eating the right kind of breakfast helps to balance blood sugar levels, kick start metabolism and so set you up for the day. It'll also help to put you in control of eating habits throughout the day ...ie, start off right and you're more likely to stay on track.

Solution: Spend some time planning how you'll fit breakfast in ...whether it's to get up half an hour earlier, buying ingredients for a smoothie with flaxseeds and maybe some oats that you can prepare the night before, or planning a little detour that'll take you past a Pret or an Eat so you pick up some granola and fruit to go.

How often are you 'cheating' ...really? A few kettle chips here, a couple of hobnobs there, when we snack whilst our attention is focused on something else, it's almost like the calories don't count ...but they do!

Solution: Stay conscious in your decisions of what to eat and when ...ie, don't eat on the run or snack while you're preparing food, rather sit and eat ...and chew and be present through the process.

Expecting Too Much Too Soon... Have the scales barely moved? Feel like a failure and want to give up? Expecting too much weight loss too soon is a common expectation, but think about it, it took you how long to get your body where it is today? Doesn't it make sense to lose weight over a longer period, by changing the belief systems and habits around food so that you lose it and keep it off forever?

Solution: Reassess your goal and set it to around one to two pounds per week. Make 'slow and steady' your mantra. If you really don't believe that's enough, weight out two pounds of sugar next time your in the supermarket and you'll realise how well you're doing.
