Our metabolisms slow down as we age and this often leads to gaining extra, unwanted pounds without our necessarily even having to eat more! Seems a little unfair to me, but the good news is that small dietary adjustments can help minimize weight gain ...and even help us lose some!
Here are five little tips and tricks that will help...
Eating small meals throughout the day encourages steady burn of calories which'll result in a more consistent metabolism.
Choose whole grains, otherwise known as complex carbohydrates. Replace refined carbs with unrefined, wholegrain choices. By making this little tweak you won't experience spikes in blood sugar levels that encourage storage of fat.
Use spices. Did you know that some spices boost the generation of heat in the body which means that more calories are burned? It's true ...just add black pepper, ginger, and chili peppers to dishes!
Take five. Just five minutes exercise in the morning will help to rev up your metastat (your metabolic thermostat) and give you a head start on the day. Walking, taking the stairs instead of the escalator, a few push-ups or crunches will do. Then find reasons to move more through the day, and integrate your normal exercise routine and you'll find the pounds will fall off even faster.
Drink green tea. A study by The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that people who drank a cup of tea green tea every day for three months lost more body fat than people who drank black tea. It's thought that the reason for this is because green tea contains antioxidants called catechins which may help to decrease body fat.
Hope that helps ...if you'd like some extra focus, support and accountability, do get in touch.
Be well. Be happy.
