London's Comedy Blog

Hi comedy fans!

Why not treat yourself to some top-notch comedy this festive season. Here is LondonisFunny.com's pick of the month:

• Dec 1-10 – Set List at Soho Theatre
An improv show that was a star up in Edinburgh this year, guests include Tim Minchin, Phill Jupitus, Rich Hall, Greg Proops and Andrew Maxwell.

• Friday 2 – 99 Club Leicester Square View
A rare club gig by both RIch Hall and Stephen K Amos, plus Zoe Lyons and Michael Smiley.

• Saturday 3 – Live at the Chapel
Daniel Kitson hosts at the Union Chapel, Islington, plus Alex Horne, Marcel Lucont, the Pajama Men and Nick Helm.

• Saturday 3 – Arcola Comedy
An awesome new venue in Dalston (though take an extra layer), Adam Riches headlines, plus Henning Wehn, Miles Jupp, Cariad Lloyd, Colin Hoult and Pat Cahill.

• Sunday 4 – Hoopers Comedy Night
Value for money-tastic! Benny Boot, Jigsaw, Dan Antopolski, Luke Benson and Hari Kindabolu. For NOTHING at Hoopers pub in Dulwich!

• Sundays 4, 11, 18 – Comedy Store Players
Paul Merton appears as part of the still awesome Comedy Store Players in Piccadilly.

• Tuesday 6 – 99 Club Leicester Square
Heads up on another rare club set, this one by Milton Jones, plus Holly Walsh and Michael Smiley.

• Thursday 8 – PLEB Talks
A fun, comedic take on the TED talks, with Rich Fulcher, Thom Tuck, Nish Kumar and more. The secret location will be revealed to ticketholders 48 hours prior to the show.

• From Dec 8 – Tim Key, Masterslut
A masterful oddity from Key, this is on at Soho Theatre for a good while. You can also catch Key in his Freeze double act on the 10th at the Duke of York theatre.

• Saturday 10 – Knock2Bag Christmas Party (Mermaid Theatre)
An unusual and excellent line-up at this theatre in the City, with John Shuttleworth, Peter Serafinowicz, Peep Show dude Robert Popper, Kevin Eldon, Brian Gittins and Fergus Craig.

• Until Dec 10 – Stephen Merchant, Hello Ladies
A classy debut show by Merchant at the Hammersmith Apollo that's a light-hearted joy. Russell Kane is also performing his latest show Manscaping at the Apollo on Dec 11.

• Monday 12 – Awkward Silence and Guests
Probably the smallest gig the Pajama Men will do for a while, also see Dr Brown and Jigsaw at this sketch night in the Wilmington Arms pub, Farringdon.

• Monday 12 – Joy of Sketch
A rather larger sketch night at the Lyric Theatre, featuring the Pajama Men (again!), Two Episodes of Mash, Will and Greg (from Fresh Meat), Idiots of Ants and more.

• Monday 12 – Kids Company Fundraiser with Michael McIntyre
Big fat £40 for this show at the Hammersmith Apollo, but a good cause and a great line-up: McIntyre, Sean Lock, Jo Brand, Rhod Gilbert, Kevin Bridges, Jack Dee and more.

• Thursday 15 – The Laugh Goodbye (New Diorama Theatre)
A fundraiser for Mind mental health charity to honour the life of stand-up Mackenzie Taylor who died last year. Features Tom Wrigglesworth, Holly Walsh, Joe Wilkinson, John Gordillo and more.

• Friday 16 – Crack Comedy Southbank (Slug and Lettuce)
As Crowded House once sang, three headliners in one night. Pretty sure they were referring to Kerry Godliman, Carey Marx and Pete Firman.

• Fri/Sat 16/17 – Banana Cabaret, Balham
Another great club line-up: Josh Howie, Carey Marx, Rob Rouse and Simon Evans.

• From Fri 16 – Sam Simmons, Meanwhile
Aussie surrealist Simmons brings his Edinburgh Comedy Award-nominated show to Soho Theatre.

• Friday 23 – Club Senseless
A right old knees up at the King's Head in Crouch End, with Ronnie Golden, Barry Cryer, Otiz Canneloni and more tbc I'm sure.

• All month – Stewart Lee at Leicester Square Theatre
Lee's residency continues.

As ever, these and hundreds more recommended comedy shows (we don't list the duff stuff) can be found at www.londonisfunny.com.

Look out soon for a new year's eve comedy guide ...
