St Patrick's day in London

Debby's Blog

A few weeks ago I was back in London after a long time. On the Sunday of my visit to London, I stumbled into a pleasant surprise. They celibrated St Patrick's Day. There was lots to do in London, but I saw the St Patrick's parade and a St Patrick's event at Trafalger Square. It was funny to see the roads around Trafalger Square without cars. All I saw were people on bikes or skates, or pedestrians. The parade was beautiful and a sight for the eyes. London knows how to party. The concert at Trafalger Square itself was great. There were a few Irish bands playing and it drew huge crowds. Not only Irish, but I saw people from all over the world. The Tesco on Trafalger Square was packed with people buying drinks, but alas for them, it was forbidden to bring any to the party. The entrance to Trafalger Square was free, but security was strict. The weather was good. The sun was out and the temperature was nice. I spent some good hours in that area that afternoon. It was fun to relax and watch the bands play their songs. I have no idea if this was a once of a lifetime event, but it is worth it to check it out. If the weather is good, the St Patrick's celibrations are worth a Sunday afternoon. I had a good time, and realized that I was out of London for too long, and hopefully my next visit will be soon. Although I am not going this Summer as I want to avoid the Olympic crowds. And a tip for people that will be in London in the next few weeks. Try to avoid Leicester Square for a while. I have been there and they are re-vamping it. The idea is great, but the crowd is to many for so little space to walk. Almost the whole of the Square is not open for public. The new and re-vamped Leicester Square will be open some time in April. A good thing is that the Swiss clock is back. I missed that the last few years, and it was good to see that it is back. Hopefully it still will be there when I visit London next time.
