Beat Colds and Flu this Winter...

If you’d like to be in the driving seat for your health, then here are some natural tips that will supercharge your immune strength so you don’t have to sniff and sneeze your way through winter…

How often have you:

:: gotten sick, nipped to the pharmacy and accepted what feels like a very hefty, yet somehow necessary bill for over-the-counter drugs to ease symptoms?

:: felt like death but soldiered into work anyhow?

:: missed a much-looked-forward-to event because you were too sick to go?

There are two ways of looking at why we get sick:

One :: We got unlucky and picked up a really bad cold …what will be, will be.

Two :: Our immune strength is so low we’re leaving ourselves wide open to viruses and infections …which means we’re accountable for our own health, we can take responsibility for boosting it, and we’re in control of whether we get sick or not!

Here come the solutions!

1. A happy digestive system means better immunity …because digestion takes precedence over other important work our body’s have to do …like healing.

Bloating, gas, acid reflux, constipation, diarrhoea are all signs of an unhappy digestive system. Whether you see your doctor or a nutritionist, take steps to do something about it because it’s your body’s way of telling you something is out of balance.

2. Think of your food as medicine. Many foods contain anti viral and anti bacterial properties which can be a powerful natural force against infection; think garlic, onions, oregano oil, liquorice.

Also include raw chocolate, kale, broccoli, blueberries, goji berries, oats, rice, quinoa, bee products, almonds, pumpkin and flax seeds, miso and ginger in your weekly shopping basket and you’ll be less likely to need pricey immune boosting supplements A, C, E, B6, D3, omega oils and zinc out of a bottle.

3. Shake the sugar habit… Sugar can suppress the immune system for up to 5 hours so cut down on intake, or better still cut it out altogether. It’s hidden in all sorts of foods, even savoury products so check the label and be your own sugar detective. Raw, sugar-free chocolate is still allowed though ❤

4. Sleep well, and get lots of rest. It’s important and allows our bodies to do a lot of recuperative work that they need to do. If you’re stressed, then find ways to relax too because we completely underestimate how much stress impacts our health, and it significantly weakens our immunity.

5. Stay warm …Have plenty of hot drinks and pick winter warming soups, casseroles and comforting mash potatoes as well as spicing it up with chilli peppers and ginger …all help to warm the body, and keep you feeling nice and toasty!

Grandma was right when she bought you warm socks for Christmas and reminded you to do up your coat and wear your scarf and hat!

Be well. Be happy!
