Walking times between stations revealed in the Tube Walking Map

Transport for London has finally released its official guide to the walking times between its stations, giving a handy way for people to figure out whether it's just as easy to make the journey on foot. For example, the new map reveals that the shortest walk between Underground stations is two minutes, between Whitechapel and Aldgate East.

However, the idea is not new: an unofficial version was created by designers Joe Watson and Aryven Arasen ahead of one of the Tube strikes earlier this year when the daily commute was put into chaos and aulternative ways of getting around the capital were necessary.

A spokeswoman for TfL said: “What we have seen is that people are desperate for this sort of thing, so we have created it.

"We focused on central London, zones 1 and 2, and based the times of our journey planner.

“It’s often quite a difficult message for us because people think we just do the Tube and buses, but we’re also responsible for roads, walking and cycling.

“We’re investing heavily in improving walking and cycling routes across London, with all the health benefits they bring.”
