If we Brexit will London leave the UK?

We Are London

Unless you've been hiding under a rock recently (and to be honest, given what's been happening we wouldn't blame you), you will have heard about the shooting in the gay nightclub Pulse in Orlando, the violence at the Euro football matches in France, and closer to home, the murder of Labour MP Jo Cox.

There's a horrible climate at the moment - a rising tide of hatred in the world, and here in Blighty, the EU referendum is inflaming things further.

The polls of the Remain vs Leave campaign are changing daily, and depending where you read either Brexit or Remain are ahead by just a couple of points.

There are arguments about security, jobs, sovereignity and finance - the Bank of England are firmly opposed to Brexit, saying it would harm Britain's economy, while Brexiteers say Britain pays more into the EU than it gets out. But the biggest reason always comes back to immigration. Leaving would reduce immigrants by around 10,000, however, the vast majority of arrivals last year were from outside the European Union.

While there are interesting points on both sides, the tone of discussion is provocative. It's been inciting hatred, not to mention racism, by playing on people's fears and pointing fingers at immigration, blaming this to be the cause of Britain's austerity.

If Britain leaves the EU, it's very likely Scotland will want to be part of Europe rather than Great Britain, and there's a chance Northern Ireland will follow suit. And not only that, but could London become an independent state too? The capital has 8.7 million people, a population that is bigger than that of Scotland and Wales combined. Londoners are largely pro-Remain, and they contribute 70% more to the British economy than the rest of the UK each year.

Should we leave the EU? And what will happen to London if we do? Leave us a comment on Twitter, Google+ or Facebook.
