Roger & Gallet's New Famous Five

Love London

Roger & Gallet know a thing or two about fragrance. The iconic French perfumers made their mark way back in 1862, when they became famous for selling the world's first recognised Eau de Cologne - Aqua Mirabilis - made to a secret formula created by Jean- Marie Farina more than a 100 years before. Even Napolean was a fan of the acclaimed 'Miracle Water', considered to be highly therapeutic and believed to calm the heart.

Paris at the time was packed with free-spirited young socialites, with Jean-Marie Farina’s Eau de Cologne worn liberally as a mark of liberty, frivolity and freedom. It's these joyful youths the brand has sought to capture the spirit of in its new collection, Extraits de Colognes for the “lncroyables et Merveilleuses” of today. Each fragrance aims to capture the dazzling freshness and intensity of the original and each unique scent a contemporary expression of a precious raw ingredient: Blackcurrant, Verbena, Neroli, Tuberose and Tea.

With every scent crafted in collaboration with a different renowned French perfumer, all of whom have an affinity with Roger & Gallet, they are each light enough to be sprayed all over.

I'm a little bit in love with the Extrait de Cologne Cassis Frénésie; combining the tangy freshness of blackcurrant bud absolute, spicy pepper, rose infusion and the distilled precious essences of geranium, lavadin, galbanium and buchu it's not too dissimilar (yet friendlier on the pursetrings...) to the likes of diptyque's Baies and a deliciously autumnal scent. Developed by expert nose, Elise Benat, she drew on her early memories of the aroma of Jean Marie Farina in the home from her mother placing the round soaps in the armoires.

With five fragrances to choose from, from light, fresh florals to sultry scents, there's something for everyone.
