The next week and a half essentially affords a totally guilt-free excuse to spend the majority of your time indoors swathed in pyjamas. I'm sure I'm not the only one who, after a few busy months at work, will certainly be relishing the opportunity to avoid getting dressed as far as possible and Christmas Day in particular inevitably always involves pyjamas going back on straight after lunch.

Of course if that is to be the case then one must ensure that one's loungewear is up to scratch. I'll be investing in some new pieces this week to see me through the festive season...

For cosy dressing gowns you can't beat good old Marks & Spencer. Much as I am partial to a luxurious spa-worthy towelling robe from time to time, for ultimate winter sofa snuggling you certainly need something more cosy. They're classic supersoft hooded gowns are amazing and at just £25 a total bargain. Available from

Figleaves should be your go-to; the Ava Silk Revere PJ Set (£130) is the ultimate in loungewear luxury. In super soft silk with a contrast trim they are possibly too chic for my festive post-lunch lounging at my parents' house, however I'm investing nevertheless ready for spa trips and other luxurious lounging occasions.

The piece I will be spending the vast majority of my Christmas Day in comes in the form of [b[Beaufort & Blake[/b]'s Langham pyjama bottoms. Seriously cosy brushed cotton, soft and cosy, super snuggly and, more to the point, available in enough sizes that you can supersize and allow some serious room for Christmas dinner. I need them in my life. Santa, if you're reading this, I'll take a large. £49 at
