Constructed in 1704, Burgh House, in the heart of Old Hampstead, is home to a local history museum and the Buttery Cafe where you can go for Brunch, Lunch and afternoon teas. The ground floor of Burgh House also hosts regular exhibitions and concerts.

Hampstead Museum, on the first floor of Burgh House, shows a variety of objects that give an insight into Hampstead's colourful history. Apart from the original objects, you can listen to wartime recordings on the memories telephone, and use the touchscreen computer displays to find out more about the museum displays and Hampstead’s history.

In the Constable Room, there is a permanent exhibition on great landscape artist John Constable who lived and worked in Hampstead. The room is also used for temporary exhibitions.

After extensive refurbishments Burgh House was re-opened in July 2006. It can be hired for weddings, receptions and other private events.

The house and museum are open on Wednesday to Sunday, from noon to 17:00 (by appointment on Saturdays).

Admission is free.
