The most significant moment in English history took place in Runnymede: the signing of the Magna Carta in 1215, a landmark document that, among many other things, gave the population the right to justice and fair trials. Although the original document is on display at the British Library, past exhibitions at Chertsey Museum have paid homage to this crucial event.

The history of Runnymede in Surrey is explained here with exhibits of clothing, fine and decorative arts and ceramics. Among the exciting archaeological finds are items from the Bronze and Iron ages and a Viking sword from the 10th century. A photographic exhibition shows how much this historical town has changed since the 1860s.
