Danson Park

Danson Park is the largest park in the Bexleyheath area, and is known for hosting live music events, fireworks, motor shows, and dog shows among other things, basically, it’s where most local events are held. The 78-acre park has existed since before the 13th century; it is thought to have been used for pasture before becoming part of the private estate of one Mr. Richmond. In the 18th century a wealthy merchant purchased the estate and constructed a luxurious house for himself in the style of a Palladian Villa, which is open to the public and worth a visit due to its stunning library and swirling staircase beneath the skylight. The park itself has tennis courts, a football pitch, golf course, bowling greens and cycling routes. Avid bird watchers will be able to spy swifts, four species of gulls and sparrow hawks, but if that’s not your bag you can try your hand at boating, canoeing or fishing – the lake is often used by the Erith Rowing Club. When you’ve tired of nature there’s the Stable Bloc pub, but make sure you spot the 200 year old oak tree that sits in Mid Park first.
