Previous occupiers of Fenton House were fortunate enough to live moments away from Hampstead Heath, north London’s greatest patch of greenery. The last owner was Lady Binning, whose tastes perfectly matched the original 17th century architecture of the townhouse, as did her possessions which remain on display, which include needlework from the 1600s as well as Georgian furniture. Binning lived in the house from 1936 to 1952, when she passed away and left the property in the care of the National Trust. The Trust also look after the walled garden, which has a fully operational kitchen garden and an orchard. During the annually celebrated Apple Day, at the end of September, visitors take part in apple identification and tasting, cookery demos and beekeeping lessons.
