London Bridge, which lies over the river Thames between the City of London and Southwark, is located between Cannon Street Railway Bridge and Tower Bridge. On the south side of the bridge there are Southwark Cathedral and London Bridge station; on the north side there are the Monument to the Great Fire of London and Monument tube station.

A first timber version of the bridge was built by the Romans in 52AD. After the Romans abandoned London, the bridge was either no longer in use or dismantled as historians have evidence that in Saxon times people relied on ferries to get them from on side of the river to the other. In 1209, London Bridge was re-constructed, this time in stone, with shops and houses along its sides. In 1831 this stone bridge was replaced by a granite bridge. The concrete bridge that we know as London Bridge today was built in 1973.

We offer some location suggestions

London Bridge is much like any bridge once you’re on it. What is important here is the view that this particular bridge affords you. Head here by night, look east and gaze upon the lights that decorate Tower Bridge. There’s no London proposal spot quite like it.
