Since finding a home in Soho’s Dean Street in 2000, the Soho Theatre has made quite a name for itself. Apart from presenting new works and supporting new and emerging performers and writers, the Soho Theatre is also one of the best places to see comedy, cabaret and performance programmes. Apart from featuring new comedians, Soho Theatre also hosts performances by the county’s more established comedians such as Eddie Izzard, Ricky Gervais or Russell Brand as well as putting on shows by international acts such as Kristen Schaal and Doug Stanhope.

Formed in 1969 by Verity Bargate and Fred Proud, the Soho Theatre Company took up residency in Old Compton Street before moving to the Soho Poly. In 1990, the Soho Company found a home in a number of changing venues, such as the Royal Court, Riverside Studios, and ICA before joining the Cockpit Theatre of Marylebone. The Dean Street venue has a 144 seat auditorium and an 85 seat studio plus a small performance bar overlooking the street. There is also an Indian restaurant and bar on the ground floor, Cafe Lazeez.

London's most cherished theatres

We've put together a list of what we think are London's greatest theatres.

The Soho Theatre is all about fostering talent, whether it is in comedy, cabaret or theatre itself. Slap bang in the centre of one of London’s most creative areas; the Soho Theatre still has the chops to stand out. Critically acclaimed shows consistently grace the three spaces and it is as unpretentious and welcoming a space as you’ll find.
