Walthamstow Dog Track was established by William Chandler in 1933. William Chandler started business as an illegal bookmaker on the streets of London’s East End, his first employees were lookouts positioned on the street corners to watch for police patrols. William Chandler progressed and began running books for horse-racing tracks. Soon Chandler owned the best bookmaking pitches at all of the racetracks in the South of England. Chandler soon became a rails bookmaker- allowed to run his book at the member’s enclosure- sharing spoils with William Hill and Jo Coral.
Dog racing came to England in the late 1920s. Chandler saw his opportunity and opened Walthamstow Dog Track. William Chandler sadly died in 1946 but Walthamstow Dog Track is still owned by the Chandler family.
Today Walthamstow Dog Track has the largest attendance and gambling turnover in the UK. The track makes more than £50 million each year from the track and £300 million from the rest of its business. Walthamstow was voted the B.G.R.B. racetrack of the millennium and now boasts a capacity of more than five thousand. The Paddock Grill at Walthamstow serves more than 1,000 meals every Saturday and is considered one of greyhound racings finest restaurants. There are two further restaurants and seven bars on site. The atmosphere at Walthamstow is one to be experienced whether you are a gambler or merely a spectator there is plenty to see and do.

Hi to everyone at Walthamstow Dog Track,

Why are you closing down - me and my colleagues had so much fun on Tuesday evening. We would have liked to make it a monthly thing.

Perhaps you could do promotions to staff within the NHS.
