All In London Review
Come expecting to dance to boogaloo freak beats and get down with friends and you will not leave disappointed.
In a two level venue that sits on Curtain Road, The Strongroom has become a bit of an institution. Its vast courtyard allows for summer drinking without having to step onto the street, the basement means you need not look elsewhere to dance and the upper level is a cozy loft bar with enough style to keep even the most antsy happy. Large comfortable sofas are spread throughout the venue and there are is collection of intimate spaces that make the Strongroom perfect for groups. The décor is a stylish scene in itself, yet doesn’t feel at all contrived – making a psychedelic paintjob work with bare wood is tougher than you’d think. The crowd is never easily pinpointed – a mixture of the achingly hip old school vinyl collectors, young Shoreditch pretenders and those who know a good bar when they see one. The jukebox is perfect and so it should be with the bar’s musical heritage. DJs play weekends and the Strongroom is without doubt one of the best places to top up that musical knowledge with long nights of vintage vinyl where anything from trash, surf, psych rock, soul and rock n roll plays from the grooves.
The ‘restaurant’ serves food that looks suspiciously close to simple bar food, but whatever they call it, it fills a hole. Burgers, hot sandwiches and a selection of sides are all available and fairly reasonably priced. Beers on draught include, Leffe, Peroni and Pilsener Urquell and there is a good selection of single malt whisky for the rockers.
