It’s not fancy, it hasn’t got a Michelin star, and despite the name you can’t get booze there; however the humble Polo Bar has been a much-loved fixture opposite London’s Liverpool Street Station for nearly 50 years, serving great quality British “caff” fare to hungry City workers, commuters, builders, and hardworking policemen and women from the Bishopsgate Police station two doors down.

Polo Bar has always been a traditional “caff” and is typical in its Italian family run style. The Italian immigrants of the 50s and 60s adopted traditional English favorites such as the quintessential breakfast fry up, omelette and chips, homemade pies, liver and onion with gravy and mash, alongside spaghetti and meatballs as well as other well-loved Italian dishes from their homeland.

“Frothy coffee”, leaf tea, bacon butties and jacket potatoes are all menu classics that are typical of the working man’s “caff”, and Polo Bar has served the City based office workers for years. We attracted the lawyers and traders who worked late into the night, as well as the party revelers who came out of the clubs in the early mornings! They were eating breakfasts alongside the office cleaners and Underground workers who were starting work at 4am.

Polo Bar remains one of the very few London “caffs” that is still family owned and continues to serve one of the best quality and value for money breakfasts in London - at any time of day or night!
