All In London Review

The perfect date spot - great views and a chic little bar to match them

Review Image
London’s cultural institutions offer some of the best places in the city to drink chic for cheap. Take the top floor of the Tate Modern for example, within the imposingly industrial superstructure you can find a dainty little cocktail bar with views out across the river that take in the likes of St. Paul’s. Head up at sunset and you’ll have front row seats to one of those London sights that you can never get tired of seeing.

The Tate Modern Bar doesn’t do much to separate itself from the gallery rooms below it. The same white walls and sleek lines continue here, just don’t expect to find any Picasso’s hanging around. A lengthy service bar runs next to a long, narrow space that accommodates those not lucky enough to get a seat at one of the high stools next to the window. Unsurprisingly, this is a prime-dating zone and if you want seats for the night you’re either going to have to be patient or be eagle-eyed and quick off the mark. We stand with a bottle of the Harviestoun craft lager each (the bar also serves a range of saisons, pale ales and IPAs) and while there is some envious discontent, the view from the expansive windows makes up for the lack of bums on seats.

As well as the aforementioned beers, the Tate Modern Bar serves a range of cocktails (£8.00 each). And the one negative issue we took with the bar is that the presence of the cocktail menu can make waiting time at the bar a drag. However, when the views are as good as those from the top of Tate Modern you could forgive bigger problems than doing some bar time, this is still a gem of a date spot.
