All In London Review
Large and loud, the Old Ship has changed for the better but kept its Hackney roots
Large and loud, the Old Ship has grown a new personality. The décor, drinks and snacks might be a symptom of the changing Hackney Central, but the clientele is still a fair representation of the area. Unlike say, The Cock, around the corner, the Old Ship seems like a welcome-all type of place where it’s not just artisan ale on the minds of those drinking here. We like that. Onwards and upwards, a menu of burgers, chicken wings and “good old fashioned basket food” is appealing in its simplicity and while this by no means feels like a serious beer pub, the options are fairly extensive behind the horseshoe bar.
Aside from the food, drink and pleasingly Hackney atmosphere, the pub puts some work into its goings on. Sundays are about roasts, records and quizzing, the alleyway in from Mare Street acts as a temporary gallery space and if the music is ever disappears then that could just be that it’s because Eurovision and the likes are getting some screen time.

I was never sure why I'd never been into the Old Ship before the one time I visited, there was just something about it. Having been i can recommend it to others so that they don't see a close, dark alley and get scared off.
The food was just okay, the beer was just okay but the staff were really friendly, which turned it all around.

I booked the Old ship inn for my mum's 60th birthday. There was a party of 10 of us including two children under 12. They allowed us to come in about half hour before mum's arrival to decorate the table with our own personal touch. The atmosphere was relaxed and extremely comfortable. Rayon was looking after us. Nothing was too much effort, or if it was he didnt show it at all. The food was the right amount and catered for all our needs. We had the family roast which was beautifully presented and tasted absolutely devine. We were pleasantly surprised with the bill as well, as i thought it would have been more. The Old ship inn, is an intimate cosy and stylish venue which i would recommend. They have certainly made a 60 year old very happy.
