The George Inn is situated on the south side of the River Thames near London Bridge. The George is now the only surviving galleried coaching inn in London. There are several bars on the ground floor which serve bar food, but there is also a restaurant which used to be the bedchambers in the old coaching days. Today, it offers an a la carte menu serving traditional British cuisine and can cater for private parties of up to 100 guests upon request.

Best enjoyed in the summer
With its large cobblestone yard and several winding, connecting bars inside, The George Inn gives the impression of being ‘deceptively spacious’ in the true sense of the phrase. On Friday nights especially the pub is packed to the rafters with after-workers stopping off for a drink or three before heading south to the commuter belt.
The building is not without its history (there is even a Wikipedia page dedicated to it); a former coaching inn, it was rebuilt in the 17th century after being partially destroyed in a fire. Today, white ‘lattice’ windows and a balcony running past the upstairs restaurant are the standout features that give away its age. In fact, so treasured is the architecture that none other than the National Trust are protecting it.
So what of the pub itself? Well, the drinks are a little pricey, with the cost of a pint being in the region of £3.50, but that doesn’t stop the crowds from arriving, making jostling at the bar for space on busy nights a testing experience to say the least. Food is served daily till 9pm and consists of your average pub grub, if it’s delectable cuisine you’re after you’d be better off heading to one of the area’s nearby restaurants.
This pub is is best enjoyed in the summer, when it’s possible to sit outside in the courtyard and take advantage of the extra breathing space.

The drinks are expensive, the beer is sub-standard, the staff are rude, the bar area smells and at the end of the night they will kick you out without giving you the legal twenty minutes to finish the pint you've just paid a huge amount for. It's historical, and it's got a nice cobbled courtyard, but quite frankly you can have a quick look at it and then go and enjoy a drink somewhere much better. Immensely disappointing.
