All In London Review
Beer, beer and more beer... and American comfort food too.
Located a short walk from Peckham and East Dulwich, the Flying Pig is firmly placed among the new breed off beer bars. No repurposed old tavern, this space is modelled on the Beer Bar Style Guide, which means white tiles, distressed wood, brewery plaques and, you guessed it, free-hanging light bulbs suspended above the bar. It doesn’t exude the warmth of a pub but a visit here is more a means of getting experimental. You don’t want to bed in, you want to stay alert as you work your way through the beers. The range extends to bottles and draught from breweries around the world – plus a healthy selection of locals represented too.
The craft brew thing began as an American trend and the Flying Pig salutes the origins with its food menu. Burgers, nachos, ribs and pulled pork buns are the staples here, while our eyes were also attracted to a sign hollering about the regular midweek ‘buffalo wing night’.
This is a welcoming pub with staff happy to introduce to a new tipple. It may not be the most homely of spaces but its dedication to food, beer and some well-curated cocktails is enough to make it one worth heading a short way out of Peckham for.
