Caught between a pub and an off-license, The Beer Shop is for all the - many? - people out there who like a drink while they ponder the craft beers they're about to take home. Sit in or take away. Modern life... isn't it just the best?!

All In London

The Beer Shop London is a small, friendly micropub serving a rotating range of real ale and craft beer to drink in or takeaway. A place to meet, chat, relax and most importantly, try some really good beer!

All In London Review

Drink in or takeaway - either way, it's all about the exotic beer

A simple name and a simple premise, to mix the choice of the humble off license with the social niceties of the classic bar, The Beer Shop works the combination well. Located in Nunhead Green, a Peckham neighbour with the phrase ‘on the rise’ hung around it neck, The Beer Shop is among the new breed of drinking spots that has knocked out the need for bars and pubs as we used to know it. Still very much resembling the shop that was here before it, there’s some surprise that drinking here feels fairly natural. Tight and compact, tables are in short supply and the serving hatch style bar could probably only afford to serve around thirty people before the place began to feel full. Still, good things come in small packages and this is no exception.

For a local spot its got enough character to make drinking here an enjoyable experience, however, travelling over to Nunhead specifically to seek it out would probably be a step too far for most. The beer is a mixed bag of local brewery ales on craft and keg plus a collection of bottles and cans from further afield. The one thing that you’re guaranteed to find is a superb range of tipples – not to mention one of the friendliest barmen we’ve ever come across. That’s the thing about the likes of The Beer Shop – they may not have the aesthetics of the traditional pub, or the looks of a well-executed bar but the community vibes that a small independent can create tends to offset the slightly soulless feel that comes with transforming a high street store front.
