When my husband and I were looking for a place to "hang out" in the evenings, somehow we stumbled upon the Cockpit. Everyone was wonderful. The bartenders were welcoming, the locals were friendly, and everything about it was superb. The beer was great, and the food (homemade by Dave's wife) was the best pub fare we had in our 16 days in London. Kudos especially for the steak pie!
We miss the Cockpit already and look forward to returning on our next trip to London.
A pub has stood on this site since the 16th century. The Cockpit takes its name from the fact that it used to be a major venue for gambling during cock fights. When cock fighting was outlawed in 1849, the pub's name changed to the Three Castles but it has since been sympathetically refurbished with the old name and the old gallery both fully reinstated. The Cockpit also provides a range of entertainment including a big screen TV showing major sporting events on Sky TV.
