All In London Review

Stumbling on this pub has been a London highlight!

Review Image
It may be just another Fullers Pub on the face of it but The Star Tavern is so much more once you dive in. Maybe we’re alone here but we do like to take the odd stroll around the kinds of London neighbourhoods that epitomize the history of this city. Naturally this pastime has led us into Knightsbridge and Belgravia on many occasions. Wondering through the streets into Belgravia Mews, if you’re lucky enough – or if you take our advice – you’ll stumble on The Star Tavern. Packed in between rows of dramatic houses in an area of London more famous for its inaccessibility and wealth than anything else, the pub is a lone slice of normality.

Cosy, intimate and grand, The Star Tavern is well worth the twisting trip into the unknown. It is a traditional pub with all the trimmings. That means plenty of wood, hanging baskets, dartboard and plenty of real ale on tap. Being a Fullers pub, you’ll find the excellent London Pride, ESB and Honey Dew along with a range of more continental lagers. And though this might be one of the most expensive postcodes in London, the food is your standard pub fare at reasonable prices. But this isn’t really about the produce. And even if it didn’t have the quality real ales on draught we’d probably still be seduced because for us it’s all about the wholesome, quaint experience of a visit here.

London's best traditional pubs

This is what Britain does best

The Star Tavern isn’t just a traditional pub; it’s a traditional pub in an uber traditional area of London. Walk down the mews to this lovely Knightsbridge local and prepare for some odd looks because once you’re in you’ll stand out as an outsider immediately. Not in a bad way, of course, you simply will. But no fear, get thee to the bar, order a Fuller’s pint and settle in to a cosy corner.

Let's cosy-up

We’re firm fans of The Star Tavern in Belgravia Mews and not only for the way it tends to make us feel like we’re mixing with the upper classes when we visit. Dimly lit, compact and charming, the open fire is the bow on one of West London’s quaintest pubs.
