All In London Review

An attractive pub with a great location and the bonus of a boutique guesthouse above

Review Image
What’s better than a welcoming local pub on the cusp of Stoke Newington’s Church Street and Clissold Park? A welcoming local pub on the cusp of Stoke Newington’s Church Street and Clissold Park with a boutique guesthouse above it…

Okay, so that sounded somewhere between a bad joke and a massively overblown opening paragraph but what are we going to do? Rewrite? No, if you’re reading this we’ve continued the theme of massively overblown opening paragraphs and it has been published, so someone liked it.

Anyway… The Rose and Crown is an excellent pub because you can drink as much as you like and simply stumble upstairs to your guestroom (or Suite if you’re feeling flush) - if you’ve booked a room that is. While the guesthouse isn’t really the prime focus of this review, we’ve seen the rooms and the rates - if you’re ever in need of a boutique bargain stay in London, then this is it.

The pub below must surely owe much of its popularity to its great location opposite the entrance to Clissold Park. Not that that should reflect badly on the venue itself. The interior is classically presented with stone floors, dim lighting, plenty of dark wood and some attractive bay windows. Traditional but with a modern twist. It’s the type of pub that was probably one of the first to serve Hoegaarden in those deceptively large pint glasses or the kind of pub that begun hosting quiz nights when others still had darts teams. You know, that kind of pub.

This is a friendly, family orientated place to come and eat and drink. Main meals like prawn and mussel risotto, chicken burger and fish and chips are under £10.00. Drinks are standard lagers, ales, wines and spirits. There is a garden outside, but the tables at the front provide more opportunity for people watching. Family owned since 1986, The Rose and Crown has that unmistakable familial feel to it. So it feels appropriate to call it nice. A thoroughly nice place to eat and drink.

Our pick of London pubs with open fires

Let's cosy-up

Perched on the corner of Stoke Newington’s Church Street opposite Stoke Newington Town Hall, the Rose and Crown is just the kind of pub you want to retire to on a winter’s day. The stone floor and wooden beams provide a classic look that is only enhanced by the large roaring fire. And if the warmth makes you too sleepy there is always the boutique hotel upstairs.

We have just stayed for the weekend, the rooms there are probably the best in London.
The staff could not have been more attentive. The Rose and Crown has a bar to
die for, wood panels , the separate bars must have been opened up to create a
warm atmosphere , along with the 2 open fires , one gas the other log.
Just loved the Rev James beer, we had our Sunday lunch roast, can,t fault it in
any way, the manager Will, looked after us,as it seemed everyone.
A great find we will return/

Thanks Nlchola
