All night long: our top after-hours bars
At £5 the entry fee to Dalston Jazz Bar is a snip and if you turn up early you can even get in for free. Located on Bradbury Street, the tiny bar is a meat market by the end of the night. People are crammed in, sweaty and dancing and they love it. Cheap cocktails, bottled beers and faultless music till the early morn.

It's not particularly jazzy but what it lacks for in the description it makes up for with a reputation for its Friday and Saturday night parties.

Naturally it’s up in Dalston and it follows the area’s usual blueprint, except that rather than cram a miniature dance floor into a basement under Kingsland Road it takes the shape of a Seventies classroom on a corner just off Gillett Square. If you're coming on a Saturday night you'll need to brace yourself for the inevitable squeeze and the greenhouse heat that leaves everything sweating- you, the walls and the ceiling too. Not appealing? Well, at least there's a good reason for the crush and that’ll be the music. Dancehall, R&B and hip-hop dances close to the edge of cheesy at times but clearly DJs retain most of their integrity because it attracts a crowd that’s, of course, as young and lively as you would expect of Dalston. Drinks are basic, just messy pre-made Mojito mixes and bottles from the troughs of crushed ice under the counter.

It has its problems though, and despite the novelty of its dirty library design, the toilets are a nightmare, the bar is a battle to get to and there’s next to no seating at all. Basically, if you’re not here to dance then you shouldn’t be here at all.

I just don't understand those reviews: I have been going there for ten years, this bar is a institution in Dalston, great menu ,love the mix of music.
This is a lay back bar with free live music, its not the dorchestet. Its a funky bar.

Extremely poor service from bad mannered waiting staff - customer service training is most definitely needed and how to engage with customers for the betterment of the establishment.
Food bland and poor presentation, not as described on menu - if you change the menu or run out of items don't just serve an alternative in the hope that the guest is stupid enough not to notice, let them know so they can select something else.
Would never visit this place again, nor recommend it to anyone. Very, very disappointing indeed.
Didn't want to leave any stars but couldn't post without one.

Since we last visited things have changed here. Previously, this would be the first bar I'd think of if it was 11pm on a Saturday night and time for dancing. However, last time we went they stopped the music at 1am - a new policy thanks to noise complaints from neighbours. Now, the venue can't do anything about this I guess but it defeats the purpose of going here. Weirder still is that they stay open till 4am or so but without the music that used to make it so great.

A huge shame. What happened to Dalston?
