Having moved to the area just a few months ago I had intended for a while to check out what in terms of distance is "my local". On the face of it a reasonably welcoming traditional pub full of what seem to be familiar-to-each other locals. Potentially this could be a brilliant pub - a welcome blast from the past remains - a pool table. On top of this an open coal fire place, a range of ales, a friendly astmosphere and no "your not a local" nasty looks.
Two things that hugely let it down are:
1) the temperature in side - it's FREEZING!
2) truly AWFUL music played by a 60+yrs landlord!

C'mon smartypants...
This unassuming pub in Bow runs a tough quiz on the first Thursday of every month. Questions always have a theme which is advertised in advance, previous themes have included the month of May and Angela Lansbury. The entry fee is donated to St. Joseph’s Hospice in Hackney.

The contact details for this delightful old east end pub are incorrect.
It has been under the control of a new couple since Jan 08 and has turned into a comfy, friendly, traditional pub.
