"Drinking, dancing and weird and wonderful nights aplenty!"Review Rating: Reviewed by T.A.O
In these days of constantly shifting trends, where pop-ups can steal your customers away before you can say ‘Aperol Spritz’, The Book Club does a remarkable job in staying down with the in-crowd. How? By offering a random collection of excellent nights out in a club space that seems to get better with age.
Located in Shoreditch, The Book Club has been a bastion of big nights out since well before the area exploded. A basement club provides the dancing room, done up in a semi-industrial style with a small bar and a small collection of seating. The ground floor bar above is the pre-party to the basement’s after party with a solid menu of sharing platters that include BBQ, vegetarian, Mexican and straight up meat, plus a busy events schedule.
Along with a large bar, a well–used ping-pong table and plenty of seating, the upstairs space plays host to a huge range of alternative nights. These nights are arguably what have kept The Book Club so fresh over the years, with the likes of life drawing, ping-pong tournaments, board game creation (yes, really) and speed dating. Not to mention the fact that this is one of the best places in Shoreditch for a dance. Hip-hop, soul, funk, bass and R’n’B are the usual sounds that get people moving and the basement’s ceiling sweating.
There’s no such thing as a guaranteed great night out but with the sheer array of action going on The Book Club comes close.
