An East Village bar in East London.

All In London Review

Broadway Market's one and only cocktail bar

Broadway Market's one and only cocktail bar and purveyor of LA street food.

Off Broadway is the East Village bar that got lost and ended up in east London according to the shtick, and the description's pretty much right on. A gallery of artwork hangs on the walls and only partly distracts from the chic decor of dark wood, dim light bulbs as ornaments and a mammoth stocked bar. Underneath there's a separate speakeasy style lounge complete with its own bar and space for screenings, bands and DJs as well as time away from the cramped cocktail counter.

Its range of mixed drinks takes in classics like the Manhattan, king of cocktails, as well as its own inspirations and a specials board that picks an off menu drink of the day. The adaptation of the Margaritas is particularly good.

The American influence extends to the beers and they stock Brooklyn Lager and Anchor Steam among a big range on draught and by the bottle.

Being Broadway Market, it's a predominantly young media heavy crowd but the cocktails do bring different types to the neighbourhood, and then there's food.

It's not clear what the LA part of the Tex-Mex menu is but it's a good part, a healthy portion of rice comes alongside burritos and tacos with choices of meat and the strength of the homemade chilli.

It’s stuck in an awkward area if you don’t live nearby, but locals fill it so it must be mixing well.

The Ultra hip Broadway Market cocktail bar was recently graced by the presence of Natalie Portman – probably celebrating her neu-engagement to the mystical Klaxons front man. If not her then there are plenty of rock star lookalikes to gawp at, plus mean cocktails and even meaner burritos.

I go to this bar when ever I want a good cocktail and Mexican food that does not suck. I like the vibe and the staff crack me up, they are a bunch of hooligans with cocktail shakers. It is not cheap but you get great bang for you buck here. A local watering hole in the Chicago tradition, God bless American imports.
