All In London Review

..worth a visit for peckish visitors to the area.

If you live in London and like to eat out at the odd gastropub, you’ve probably been to a Geronimo Inns pub. They tend to occupy sites in gentrified areas: Tufnell Park, Highbury, Bethnal Green, Oval and of course W1. Their latest opening is situated within The Exchange, a stone’s throw from Liverpool St. station.

The décor at The White Horse is typical of the chain’s venues - attempting to give a homely feel with wallpaper, sofas and slightly mismatched wooden chairs with colourful cushions.

With the aim of catering to the hurried local city workers, the menu features a choice of ‘plat rapide’, where two or three courses are served on one platter. The food offered at Geronimo pubs tends to be of a high standard, and the menu comprising salt beef with horse radish dumplings, hot smoked wood pigeon salad with quince and a lentil and walnut dressing and braised oxtail with tarragon gravy promises more of the same.

Breakfasts are also catered for, with an opening time of 7.30am and a choice of eggs Benedict (£4.95), full English (£8.50), crumpets and butter (£1.50), or fresh fruit vanilla Greek yoghurt (£3.50), amongst others. The eggs Benedict come with either a duck or hen’s egg and some deliciously smokey bacon; scrambled eggs are creamy and hearty.

The wine list features some very delectable wines (organic Rioja Crianza Azabache, Sancerre Domain Merlin-Cherrier) and a range of draughts, ales and bottles. More unusual beers such as Sierra Nevada, Brooklyn and Meantime are also on offer.

Due to its location this pub is likely to be packing the suits in at lunchtimes and after 5pm, however it’s worth a visit for peckish visitors to the area.
