All In London Review

the Victory is now all about the music

A quick look at The Victory from the street and you’ll wonder what all the fuss is about. This Kingsland Road basement bar isn’t much for design and interiors. Featuring some of the ugliest furnishings seen on this street and some randomly strange identi-prints on the walls, there has to be more to it. And of course there is. Transformed by the people previously in charge of the Stag’s Head, the Victory is now all about the music. Wild nights rage until the early hours where DJs play anything from minimal and tech-house, to mid-west garage and dub-step. There’s a pool table at the back of the pub, so there’s a little entertainment to keep you busy during the day but this place is famed for its nights. Along with the regular DJS, up and coming bands play most weekends as well as some bigger international names.

This is the queen of the dive bars and since that’s what it is it’s only right that they should have a pedestrian list of beers to keep it that way. Carlsberg, Kronenbourg and Guinness are those standard drinks absolutely not worth telling you about but there you go. If the Dolphin on Mare Street had an edgier cousin the Victory would be it. All the class here comes from the simply excellent line-ups so if you want a comfy drink, just stay home.
