The iconic Oscar Wilde Bar, formerly the Grill Room (originally established in 1865) has been exquisitely restored to its original Louis XVI detailing and is now the place to enjoy afternoon tea, Champagne and a light evening menu.

Nestled between the elegance of Mayfair and the creativity of Soho, the Oscar Wilde Bar is where great minds came together to change the world. It is in this very room that Oscar Wilde fell in love with Lord Alfred Douglas, Aubrey Beardsley debated with Whistler, David Bowie retired Ziggy Stardust and Mick Jagger, the Beatles and Elizabeth Taylor danced the night away.

The Oscar Wilde Bar is open from 18.30 Tuesday to Saturday and has a regular programme of live entertainment on select evenings, including the flagship cabaret show Salon des Artistes, presented by The Black Cat Cabaret.

The Oscar Wilde Bar is open daily for afternoon tea from 12pm.

Hotel Café Royal offer a London High Society afternoon tea menu. Executive Pastry Chef Andrew Blas and Chef De Cuisine Armand Sablon, have created a delicious afternoon tea comprising of traditional yet surprising dishes such as wild boar, crackling, pickled apple and mustard bun; Mary Rose prawn cocktail; and absinthe green fairy macaroon.

A new addition to the afternoon tea collection, is The London Royal Tea which is inspired by London and afternoon tea through the ages. Experience the traditional Battenberg cake, supposedly created to celebrate the royal wedding of 1884 between Prince Louis of Battenberg and Queen Victoria’s granddaughter, through to macaroons, inspired by the icon of the London Underground.

Booking in advance is highly recommended.

Café Royal’s Oscar Wilde Bar has one of London’s most ostentatious afternoon teas. One of the desserts is the Passion Banana Opera, a cake sumptuously layered with banana sponge and passion fruit cream, topped with dazzling fruit tuilles.
