This company sought to take £750 of a deposit from me when I hired a van at their Practical Car and Van Rental outlet.
The van was found to have a huge dent in the top awning which was overlooked by the person working there when it was checked out. This was either intentional or unintentional. I dropped the van off at an outlet in Exeter, where they noticed the dent. It was suddenly in question that I would get my deposit back.. I called Bishop motors and they told me I may lose my deposit, which suggests they thought it is my fault. At this point I got angry, and threatened legal action. They put the phone down on me. I called back and they took the phone off the hook, leaving it on the desk. Unbeknownst to them i could hear what they were saying. They realised they had made a mistake, and were discussing 'covering their own backs'. the only thing I can glean from that statement, which actually went "cover your back, mate, she'll go to the *bleeping* Pope", is that they were willing to keep my money if they were unable to cover their backs.
Do not hire a van with these people, or if you do, TAKE A PHOTO!!! My mistake of course, but an untrustworthy company who take a huge deposit then threaten to keep it based on their own incompetency. Too dodgy. I got my money back after some serious wrangling.
