I remember the wonderful Parade Delicatessen from the early 1970s, when - as a teenager - I had a Saturday job there. I loved working there and stayed for about 3 years. Back then, it was owned by Josef Bielak and the manager was known as Mr Stanley. Another long-standing member of staff was Pani Renia. I served mainly on the cake counter where we sold fantastic cheese cakes, poppy seed buns, rum babas, Russian slices, florentines, kataifi, baklava and more. The shop also sold a wide range of cheeses and cooked meats, rollmops, gherkins and sauerkraut from a barrel, and delicious rye breads. Working there was a culinary delight! The shop was across the road from the BBC building and one day John Cleese walked in and asked me if we sold cigarettes (we didn't)!

First time visit after more than 25 years, not disappointed. Have very fond memories of this long-established deli from 1983, when it was one of just a handful of Polish shops in London, and I a fresh arrival as a refugee from the martial law in Poland, looking amazed at the shelves groaning under all the victuals lacking or virtually unknown in Poland. The Parade has maintained the standard, still impressing even this seasoned Polish Londoner. Long may it continue!
