Great people, great service, great watches to watch... or to buy, what I did.

Excellent service. I took the wife's watch in to have some links removed, all was well charged £6.00.
However the wife over guesstimated the size of her wrist.
Back to this shop and two links added.

NO CHARGE

Many thanks

Took my Seiko Kinetic there to have the capacitor replaced. While it took them longer than they said it would, the watch now performs as it should and on the whole, I was pleased with the service. The only negative I would have to mention is that they quote prices excluding VAT but don't tell you as such until you come to pay. Watch out for that one if you want to avoid the verbal onslaught I received from them when I politely questioned the difference!

Bemused by the odd negative review.

I have been taking Omega classic watches to John's for years for services and repairs and I wouldn't know where else to go if and when he ever retires. Hope he never does!

A genuine gem. I needed a clasp repaired on a Maurice LaCroix and had been quote £80-120 by a variety of establishments all of whom told me it could not be repaired and needed to be replaced.

I left my watch with the proprietor who a few days later had repaired it for me for less than £20.

Cannot recommend highly enough

I bought a Cartier watch here in February 2011- very pleased with the price, the condition and the customer service.

I went to this shop to repair my Diesel Watch DZ-7069. The guy who received my watch to repair was very friendly and agreed to a price of £8 if there was only a battery inside and £12 if there were two batteries in it.
He gave me a handwritten receipt that stated all the above.
To my surprise, when I went to collect the watch a couple of days later, the man who gave me my watch back was extremely rude and charged me £10 for 1 battery, instead of £8.
I argued with him for a bit, but he didn't agree to charge me what it was initially agreed.
I asked him why he was charging me more and he simply turned his back to me and walked off.
I was so annoyed and for that reason, I am writing this review.
Also, they could not even set-up the time and date on my digital watch!!
There is also a sign inside the shop that says:" if you think that our staff is rude, wait until you meet our boss... He's bloody awful!"
I'm surely never going back there again and would highly reccommend for the readers of this post to take their businesses elsewhere, unless you're looking to be treated like a piece of nothing and be overcharged for services.
Stay away from this shop! You've all been warned!

I have been twice in the last year to this shop, both times for a basic resetting of digits. The first time went really well. I was happy to go to an independent shop and to be served very nicely by someone who clearly knows what he is doing. My watch was repaired quickly, I paid the price asked and all was well. Because of this, I was happy to return a second time this week, for the same service. Although the owner was still welcoming and seemingly happy to help, I was suprised to come back and pick up my repaired watch to see that the price had gone way up from the first time and to have my watch returned without even having been set at the correct time and date!! I was happy to have found a shop I could come back to and end up feeling a bit cheated, too bad! I wouldn't recommend it.

I tried for years to get my grandfather's watch fixed with no success. Here, the guy was able to get it working and it's been spot on ever since. He clearly knows about watches and I don't go anywhere else now to get my watch fixed, even just for a new battery. He knows his stuff and although it seems a bit shambolic - often he just isn't there, i've always received a polite phone call to let me know when my watch is ready. I'd recommend this place to anyone without hesitation.

I agree with the last reviewer. Quaint shop and interesting owner but it's terribly slow and communication is very poor indeed. I'd give this place a wide swerve and try elsewhere.

I left a watch in this shop for service and some 2 months has passed without a repaired watch. Unfortunately its a bit "fawlty towers" in this place. Avoid and try one of the other local service centres instead.

This shop and its owner should be preserved by English Heritage. Heir to hundreds of years of Clerkenwell history, it's an old-fashioned place for both skill and service. Take any corporate colleague here to learn what 'Customer Service' really means; take any watch there for the best of watchmaker's care. Highly recommended.
