The American Dry Cleaning Company
Dry Cleaner at Chalk Farm Parade, Adelaide Road
Muswell Hill branch
I took a dress here to have the hem taken down. Went to collect it and was very disappointed with the quality of the finish, it looked terrible so I asked them to fix it. I then noticed there was a hole in the front of the dress where the original hem had been. The girl tried to say that the hole was there when I had brought it in. I had just bought the dress so if there had been a hole, which there hadn't been, I would have returned it to the shop rather than pay further money to have it altered. It was obvious that when the stitching was being picked, it has been torn. I asked her why, since she spotted the hole before it got sent away to be altered, did she not call me to inform me? I would have been within the time to return the dress whereas now I cannot. She kept saying she "probably" did not call, even though I was telling her there was no "probably" about it, she did not call. After disputing for about 15 mins I eventually got an apology. I told her I wanted a refund but she couldn't do anything about it as it is the weekend. Terrible customer service and attitude. My husband was with me and was about to have a new jacket altered but decided to take it to the nice, family run dry cleaners round the corner, where we should have gone all along.
BEWARE! If something goes wrong with these people you’ll be in for a nightmare. Service is ATROCIOUS. Here’s what happened to me:
I took a pair of cashmere trousers to be cleaned at the Chalk Farm branch. After returning numerous times over the next 3 weeks to attempt to collect them, I was told they had gone missing and that they were trying to locate them at your depot (they don’t dry clean anything on the premises) or one of the other branches. Each time I went in to enquire I was promised by the staff that they would phone me to let me know if they had been recovered. I never received a single call from them and had to go back to store to enquire weekly as to whether they had been found.
Eventually, after 4 weeks, I was told that the trousers had been lost. I filled in a form, attached the receipt for the trousers, and handed it in to the Chalk Farm branch so that I could get compensation. Again I was told I would be contacted once head office had processed the claim so that I could receive my compensation payment. Again, I heard nothing.
After returning to the store to enquire, I was told I needed to contact the head office to check the status of my compensation. Over the past 6 weeks or so I have phoned the head office on 3 separate occasions. Each time I have been told that they would look into my claim amongst their files, and phone me to let me know what the status was. And, again, I have heard nothing back each time.
So, no refund for the lost trousers. No refund for the payment for dry cleaning. Given they lost my trousers, it is astounding that the onus has been placed on me to chase and hassle their staff to try and resolve this issue. Their staff have promised to look into this and then failed to call me back on at least half a dozen occasions over the last 12 weeks.
If you have somewhere else near you that does the cleaning on their premises – than AVOID American Dry Cleaners.
