It is to London what the Strand Book Store is to New York... only better.
Best For
London's most inspiring bookshops
If you've got 30 minutes to waste and don't want to walk the streets or you actually need a book, check out these shops.
Any best bookshop list has to feature this megastore on it. The flagship store on Charing Cross Road is in a league of its own covering a huge range of subjects with departmental buyers delivering their knowledge in each section. Get a little Love Supreme in Ray’s Jazz, the in-house music store with the clue in the name and dare to find a seat in the excellent cafe upstairs.
Smooth: London's favourite jazz clubs
Sit back, open up your ears and enjoy...
Ray’s Jazz might just be one of London’s greatest venues. Located on the first floor at Foyles booksellers, it oozes charm and literary cool. In terms of jazz, as well as a well-stocked record store, you can expect improvised jam sessions, international artists and heavy doses of the avant-garde.
Best places to spend a rainy day in London
Prepare for a British summer's day!
London’s biggest book shop (their website boasts that they have over four miles of shelves) has everything you could possibly want, with a particularly wonderful section devoted to art and oversized books. They also stock world, jazz and classical CDs, and there’s a café on the fifth floor.

Really great fiction, lovely cafe upstairs and Ray's Jazz is the icing on the cake. They're moving location - a few doors down on Charing Cross Road - hopefully it'll only get better.
