Delightfully wacky and bohemian. The environment is cosy and comfortable, the staff are enchanting and genial. The food is a mix of Middle Eastern/North African mixed with a Totnes 'Tea Room'. If you don't like it then I suggest you haven't tuned in to their ethos. I used to visit often when I lived in London and still do now when visiting from Devon; it's worth it!

Definitely NOT recommended.

After enduring useless service we went to pay at the till and the proprietor short changed us. When we pointed this out, he bagan to SHOUT at us, saying that he was so rich that he could OWN US! I pointed out that this was an inappropriate way to speak to customers but he even carried on shouting that he 'could own us if he wanted' as we walked down the street. I felt very sorry for the remaining people at the cafe.

The food is nothing special and the staff utterly rubbish (waited an hour for a grilled sandwich which was cold)... the only good thing about this place is the location.

Avoid at all costs. I have never experienced a cafe manager claiming he could 'own' me before!

Stay away from this place. It is very well located and vaguely appealing, but that is that. Everything goes downhill from there.

1. Schizophrenic decor. Is it french, north african? But some english breakfast, italian and curry on the menu...
2. Menu really not representative of what's on offer
3. Staff mostly pleasant, but absolutely clueless. They are all obviously new. In my opinion, it is a combination of issues with staff retention and poor training from management.
4. Not baby friendly at all. No high chairs, no changing tables.
5. Place is cramped, so much so that people and waitresses constantly bump into you.
6. Toilet is clean. But if you are in there too long (because you are changing your baby perhaps) then a member of staff will come and bang on the door...
7. Plastic glasses. Enough said.
8. Food is disgusting. I had a lentil soup which I could not finish. Blend and watery. Tasted of chalk.
9. Passed hot food and boiling pot of tea above baby’s pushchair. Thank god I didn’t see that first hand, but told afterwards.

We didn't care that much and just wanted to get on with our day, so went to pay and leave. But that's when things just went from bad to worse. Their card machine didn't work. One member of staff (probably manager) started to get very rude. I told him it wasn't on, calmly and politely. Cutting the story short, I was accused of being dishonest because I wouldn't pay (we weren't even afforded the time to check if we had the cash between us, which ironically we had) and that I was completely mad. Rude, humiliating and threatening behaviour. One of the waitresses offered me a bar of chocolate, which I refused. Left shaking from stress and in tears. Ruined my afternoon. Stay away.

I was very disappointed by the food.

I had the Spinach Tart that was very small and came with an even smaller side salad that contain one kidney bean, two chick peas, one square of feta, one tiny 1/4 if a baby tomato on a few aged leafs of lettuce.

My friend was served a very watery, plain oily chicken soup.

We of course flagged this up with the staff who were deeply offended and in turn defensive and rude. There was also a couple sitting on the end of the long table who had the soup , who walked out and refused to pay.

The prices are ridiculous i.e. a slice of small pizza 4.58 take out 8.00 to eat in. Double the price to eat in??

Its such a shame as initially walking into the patisserie was a quite a wonderful experience. the décor was eclectic and cozy! It has such potential.
