All In London Review

Cosy eatery expands with a sleek bar

Chic boutiques, over-the-top furniture stores and overpriced restaurants fill Walton Street, then there’s Jak’s, a colourful deli cum eatery with mouthwatering displays of food that counts Frank Lampard and Lady Isabella Hervey as fans. Despite the celebrity endorsement this is not a starry hangout, but where Jak’s the eatery is a cosy cafe offering tabbouleh and chicken pies made with locally sourced ingredients, Jak’s the bar, situated a few doors down, is pure SW3. Much pouting and cocktail sipping take place while American accents hang thick in the air of this dimly lit venture - they’ve attempted to reproduce the laidback charm of the restaurant by including slouchy sofas, book shelves and other homely accoutrements, however charging £30 for two gin martinis is never going to turn this into a casual neighbourhood destination, unless you’re one of the fashionable locals strutting around in high-heeled shoe boots, and that’s just the men.

Food is available from the restaurant, and those wanting a late night munch on tsatsiki and paninis will have to venture to number 77 to order. Aside from sipping Prosecco and nibbling on olives amongst the beautiful people the music policy is surprisingly pleasant, with dancey covers of Pink Floyd’s ‘Money’ and The Beatles’ ‘She’s Leaving Home’ being far more melodic than you might initially think. Appropriately for a Friday, Jak’s is buzzing, however it isn’t being unbearably crammed and it’s possible to find a seat to recline on; it’s also a far better option than Vendome, on the opposite side of the road.
