All In London Review

The price is right, but the food is unimpressive

Review Image
Although it’s located on the very un-picturesque Finchley Road, inside it ticks all the right boxes. This very cute little Eastern European café has tables laden with photography books of Romanian landscapes and Transylvanian cookbooks. Plus there are seats outside for sunny days if you don’t mind the busy traffic.

Their USP are the chimney cakes, Hungarian rolled pastries that are often made with sugar, caramel and nuts. Here they also serve savoury versions, but unfortunately ours arrives as a slightly dry hollowed out bread roll. The hot dog is a sausage served in a chimney cake too, but we order it with extra toppings of cheese and bacon that have been baked into the dough. It also comes with small pots of American mustard and ketchup.

The salmon sandwich is mostly ciabatta bread with tomato, and the ‘Chimney breakfast’ is also unimpressive. It has a couple of thin slices of smoked salmon, a boiled egg and a savoury chimney cake, with dark gloopy sauce and Thousand Island dressing. To give them credit each dish is priced between £3 and £4, which accounts for their small size - our total bill for three dishes, a Diet Coke, freshly squeezed lemonade and black coffee comes to £13, which can’t really be sneered at. It’s ok for a light meal, however if you’re starving you’ll need to order at least two dishes each.
