I booked a car in mid-December for the xmas period 2010, and was due to collect it on 24 Dec. Unfortunately I was called on 23 December and informed that they were unable to provide a car for me due to the weather. They suggested that I sign up for Hertz Connect, and through this I did manage to obtain a replacement for the entire booking. Whilst they promised to refund the diffenence between this and my original booking (about £180), I am still waiting despite several calls. The manager I spoke to (Linda) has been quite helpful, but seems exasperated at the rest of the organisation.
I should also point out that the car provided by Connect had no petrol cap, which is an obvious safety hazard. It also had no manual, so that I had to call their emergency number to find out how to open the bonnet to refil the empty washer tank, in order to clean the salt from the windscreen. They had no idea so I had to rely on a passerby who luckily had an iPhone to look it up on the internet...
