Oliver McHugh: our man about town
Welcome to Oliver’s Town, the website manor of Oliver’s Residential, where we’re in business to find, sell, let and rent properties exclusively in Kentish Town, Camden Town, Chalk farm, Tufnell Park, Dartmouth Park and surrounding areas.
I’m Oliver McHugh, its founder and namesake, born and bred in this unique, vibrant, and exciting part of London, where, like all my experienced staff, I still live.

I set up Oliver’s in 1988, after more than a decade in the local property market. Today, you’ll find us right in the heart of Kentish and Camden town, ideally placed on the corner of Kentish Town Road and Prince of Wales Road, where my very personable team and I can offer unrivalled local knowledge of the area, its dezrez, hidden secrets and up-and-coming hotspots.

This our patch, the place we know best and where we feel most at home buying, selling, letting and managing worthy properties, at the most advantageous prices.

I hope you find what you’re looking for on this site, representing what I believe is real North West London, full of good people, great properties and interesting avenues.

For me, it’s the place to be.

Oliver McHugh

This is by far the worst letting agent I have ever had. When looking for a property to rent, they were very helpful and proactive. Once you signed a contract, it was like you didn't exist. Would ignore important maintenance requests for months, and you would have to call every day for two weeks to get any kind of response. Trying to email them? Don't bother, they won't reply. We were left without a working fridge for THREE MONTHS due to their negligence. That is entirely unacceptable. On top of this, when an old piece of furniture broke, they demanded that we replaced it, even though we had only been there a month, and the furniture was old and cheap. When we asked for references for our new landlord, they refused to provide them until we called several times to ask why not. Finally, they tried to take £400 from our deposit in order to paint two walls, fix light fittings that we asked them repeatedly to fix during our tenancy, and fix furniture that was broken the whole time. We ended up having to go to the deposit protection agency to get the money back after almost 3 months of radio silence and delaying from them. When I say avoid at all costs, I mean it.

I had been with Olivers Estate Agents for over 5 years. They managed my properties in Camden. I would like to say how terrible and horrendous their service is. Their staff is not trained as no one ever knows what they are supposed to do. I as a landlord lost a lot of money through them by constantly being presented with unexpected repair bills from their property managers. Whenever i emailed the managing director. i never got any answers from them!! They blatantly ignored me! I heard that all good reviews about their service online they write themselves.

Thanks to the excellent team work of Oliver’s Estate Agents (mainly Paul Broke, Rassam, Jolene, Josh, Steve and Will), which showed excellent market knowledge, efficient, good communication and negotiating skills, we are extremely happy with the service that Oliver’s team provided. The team looking after our case was always very responsive to our requests. Their feedback after each viewer was excellent and very professional indeed. We definitely would highly recommend Oliver’s to all landlords

They were very nice and welcoming when we were looking for a rental property but that's where the good service ended. Since then Oliver's have been nothing but a constant frustration. Culminating in a Deposit that still hasn't been returned 10 weeks after we moved out.

My advice would be to avoid this agent and look elsewhere.

Firstly, I have to wonder how many reviews on here are either from the companies themselves or their competitors - lots seem to be either 10 stars or 1 star. Hmm...

Anyway, I rented a K-Town flat via Olivers for a year, and they were just about okay. A bit slow to respond to emails, not always 100% helpful and caused us some concern over liability for repairs, but they're not utter charlatans either. Your average estate agent, really. We didn't have much cause to complain over the year but I wouldn't look forward to dealing with them regularly if something went wrong. Overall? Meh...

300 letters is not nearly enough to say how appallingly bad I have found the service from Olivers Town. They may be fine if you have no problems, but be warned. If you are a tenant with problems they are just not interested, and can become very rude if you persist in asking for help with bad conditions.

The service i receive and continue to recevie from Olivers is 1st class. From the moment i saw the flat im in, to signing the contracts was made easy and explained to me very clearly. I am pleased to say that Olives manage the property i rent and there property management team have always been there to assist me. I feel the need to write this as people are very quick to complain when something doesnt work out for them. I can speak only for my self but would gladly recomend using Olivers to anyone. There property portfolio beats every other agent! THANK YOU OLIVERS!!!

I know you shouldn't expect too much from estate agents but out of all estate agents I've ever let from, these guys are the worst. I've never met a group of people that are so rude and just don't care or even pretend they care about any problem. The way they treat me and my other housemates at times would make you think they pay us to live in our flat and not the other way around!

Emails are not responded to, phone calls are not answered. So if you need anything I have to go into the office where I am treated appallingly. On my last visit I wanted to ask one simple question but was told by the agent it was her home time and she doesn't get paid to answer questions after this!? I've spoken to about 4 people whilst being with Olivers Town and I can safely say every single one of them shares the same bad attitude. People come on this site to rant, but I would seriously stay away from this company.

I am truly shocked and disapointed at the negative feed back. My experience with the lettings department has been a very positive and efficient one, which is the reason for my comment.

I found the staff to be helpful and experienced and felt drawn to them due to their great presence within my desired locations.

I am a little confused as they still to this date have a fantastic portfolio of properties within the local area and continue to expand on the business. There is also a high volume of staff compared to other agencies i have met and dealt with.

Which leads me to believe that the people with positive experiences have not had time or felt the need to comment, unfortunatley it is only the people whom felt they have been mistreated which leads me to believe this site is negatively biased to unhappy customers and is better suited as a complaints scheme rather than something to praise successful companies and advise new clients and customers.

HORRIBLE!! Would also award zero stars if it were possible...

I have had two flat viewing appointments with Oliver's Town, and was initially very excited, as the properties listed on their website are unique and lovely. After today, I simply won't go back...

Before the first appointment, I was informed that all of the properties on their site were already let. In retrospect this is clearly suspicious, but at the time we thought they were simply having a bumper crop of tenants.

First time - agent didn't let us in, we were granted access by the tenant after waiting outside in the cold for 20 minutes. Tenant also allowed entry to family of SIX who also apparently had the same appointment.

Second time - we were 10 minutes late, and told we'd have to wait another hour to see the flat. Came back, were told by the manager that a colleague would look after us, and then waited for 20 minutes while said "colleague" rudely kept informing us that we had to keep waiting as her client was late. Also overheard her making excuses to another couple who had clearly let a flat and were being told that they could no longer move in on the date previously agreed. 20 minutes later, a family of four showed up, and we were still told to wait for two additional people. Needless to say, we left, and won't be back.

How are 8 people possibly suppose to view a 2 bedroom flat with 2 tenants already in residence?!?! Clearly the goal was to set up a competitive feeling amongst the prospective tenants, but the numbers seemed to us to be ridiculous, so we opted to leave.

Aside from being impractical, I find the general tactic to be too cutthroat and the motives a bit questionable for my tastes. I've both rented and purchased many times in my life and I've never encountered another agency that uses such practices.
Response from Chloe
Your experience seems disapointing however many agents complete block viewings. When Oliver's sold my house i had 1 block viewing and a fantastic asking price offer. I recommend completing block viewings as it shows a great use of time management and allows the current occupant quiet enjoyment for the rest of their stay in what is still 'their home'. I came on here to praise Olivers after a personal recommendation I instructed them to sell my home and within 24 hours the property was under offer at my ideal price. So thank you team! I'm still very impressed with the high level of service recieved.

This review should really be 0 stars. The staff here are unhelpful, incapable and incredibly rude. Emails are ignored or shaken off with two line responses which aren't helpful. Money takes an awfully long time to be returned to you (months) at the end of the tenancy, which definitely contrasts to their attitude if they (wrongly) believe you to not have paid rent. Just avoid this place like the plague!

We were badly let down by this agent. We put down a holding deposit of several hundred pounds, then another deposit of £4000, only to find out 10 days later that the landlord wasn't interested in letting the property. What a waste of time.

I wouldn't even give them one star if i had the choice! My partner and I began renting with Olivers last year and have regretted it ever since. In our collective 25 years of renting properties we have never come accross a comapny who are so unbelievably incapable as this lot.

Our list of complaints are endless, and the only advice i can give to anyone who is thinking of using them is DON'T!!!

I went to Olivers looking to Rent a property, and have to say Olivers are by far the best rental company in Kentish town and the surrounding areas. I was greated by a lovely smiling charming young lady and then was helped by a gemtleman called Victor, in which I viewed serveral properties with him.
I eventully went back to Olivers as I was so pleased with the service.

If you want to buy or rent a property, Olivers are the way to go!
