All In London Review

Full of interesting finds salvaged for a shop that gives them a second life...

Review Image
Since the internet swallowed swathes of the shopping game the bricks and mortar stores out there have had to do better. Walk down most London shopping streets and the number of independent shops is a travesty; fortunately for Stoke Newington residents, Church Street breaks the mould and Search and Rescue is one of its most interesting places to stop and shop.

Armed with an ethos that largely consists of scouting old, unused and abandoned products and repurposing them for the shop, you can expect to find an eclectic variety of everyday beauty here. Stunningly upholstered salvaged sofas, weathered shelving units and rickety tables are just a few of the rescued goods done up to offer your home a touch of off kilter wabi sabi that you won’t find in Ikea. Along with the furniture there is artistic gift wrap, handmade perfume and soaps, a range of kimonos, crafted jewellery and a range of textiles created by an artisan who just so happens to live in the flat above the shop.

The sad thing about the death of the high street is the fact that you can no longer wander along and stumble on unusual finds in extraordinary shops, which just makes the likes of Search and Rescue all the more valuable. Window shopping is elevated here so even if you’re not on the look out for gifts for others, something for the home or a crazy one-off kimono purchase, just looking is a therapeutic excursion. Search and Rescue makes shopping offline and independent well worth your while.
