I have ticked the recommend box only because they have a good selection of haberdashery. I have given it a 2* rating because the service continues to be rude and unhelpful, particularly from the staff on the lower floor, who turn, what should be a calming experience for people searching for that something to complete their craft/project, into a stressful and unpleasant experience. I have had the unfortunate luck to shop there for many years, but only if I can't find what I need from other very similar shops or on-line, and this bad attitude has never improved, even from new and young staff. The elderly man only gets worse with time... and perhaps the others get the negative vibes from him. Lighten up and enjoy your work... you are lucky to have a job.

I believe that there is a unique and shocking culture of rudeness from the staff that has simply always prevailed in this shop.
I have continued to shop here on occasions simply out of need. If you can avoid it do not shop here.
The staff are so unbelievably rude and dismissive. Always have been. I can only assume that new staff over the years just copy the behaviour of existing staff. It is just amazing how nothing has changed in customer service in going back over 10 years or more. There is nowhere in London that matches the deplorable lack of customer service in this shop. There really does need to be an overhaul of staff behaviour. This is simply the most unpleasant place to shop always has been.

I visited this shop on Saturday whilst in London for the weekend. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. I was looking for a replacement piece of lightweight material for the back of a jumper which had been burnt with an iron. The lady helped me pick a piece of silk with the same feel as the original piece. I will definitely return on future shopping trips.

Their products are good but the staff are rude and unhelpful.. Perhaps if you tidy the place up things could be found without having to ask the staff who are reluctant to help. Try inproving please otherwise Barnett Lawson close by will get all your custom. The ladies there are polite and very helpful!

This is a shop for the sewing expert/enthusiast. They have a wonderful selection of haberdashery and equipment. I've rarely left without finding what I wanted. Worth checking for bulk discounts. VAT not always included in the quoted prices.

What a place! Went this afternoon to buy some buttons. I politely asked where to look and was rudely pointed to a corner where thousand of buttons were kept. No help at all (I'm a guy!). I managed to find the right ones and at the till the staff just took the money without saying a word.Never again

I love Macculloch & Wallis and I totally disagree with all the above reviews. They have the best selection of fabrics and trimmings and are also much cheaper than most of the shops on Berwick Street. This is my favorite shop in London and I always find the staff extremely helpful. The customer service is amazing, and all the staff know so much about sewing and making. It is very rear to find a shop where they are able to give excellent advice on all levels.

I have been visiting this shop hundreds of times and I always leave with a smile.

I have started to join to all the possible online reviews websites only to write about how shocked i was by the "service" provided by MacCulloch & Wallis. I had the worst service of my whole life, never met such rude staff. Their fabric selection is not even the best you can find in London, overpriced and the whole environment is just so unwelcome. I have been there about 3 times and I always noticed how rude the staff was but I seriously decided to stop wasting my money, time and especially to be treated in such an horrible way.
Just AVOID it, there are way better places where to get more beautiful, cheaper fabrics and, especially, to be helped by a nice and polite staff.

Very rude staff. I'm so disappointed in this shop. I really thought I'd found a treasure trove from which I could supply my lingerie business with threads and trimmings. Sut the staff are so unpleasant. When I asked for help I was told "Can't you see I'm serving someone!" Well, no I didn't see this because the person they were meant to be serving was talking to someone else at the time. The two unpleasant girls who work there then just laughed, while the man who also works there just ignored me. In the end I had to leave without buying what I wanted. I simply don't have time to waste with suppliers like this. I now buy from an online supplier who is polite, efficient and helpful. Shops moan about online sales killing their trade and then they treat their customers like dirt. they deserve not to get the trade in my opinion.

The products are great in this shop. But it's so sad how the staff let it down. There's one polite and helpful older gentleman, but unfortunately his two young female colleagues are very rude and ineffective. While I was in the shop they could be heard at the top of their voices complaining about the "stupid questions" that customers ask. It makes you not want to ask anything, and not want to go back. It's really very sad. I found the products I needed, but I will get them from another shop or order them online because I don't want my money to go to a place this unpleasant to their customers.

The products here are good (particularly millinery and trimmings). Great selection, convenient location.

However, the service is lacking. In the current financial climate people are shopping to a budget more than ever. There are no prices on anything. I had to ask a (very unfriendly) sales assistant for help to find prices on feathers - much tutting, and sighing.

My friend was trying to find the best price for some fabric - the male sales assistant quite rudely told her when she didn't want to pay £20 a metre for some fabric to "go to Primark and buy a £10 dress from there".

If you can shop anywhere else - do. The products might be great, but the staff are rude and unhelpful. Avoid!
