Vilma and her team are brill I travel from Harrow to get my hair styled and coloured, the products they use on my hair are excellent.
I have suffered from allergic reactions to hair dye products in the past and so naturally I was very wary of using hair dyes. I found Jarrolds through Kgb voucher codes so went for a cut I explained my situation to Vilma, she was so kind and attentive and advised the Swarzkopf range that had just come on the market. They gave me an allergy test and hey presto!! no reaction...I have been going there since and can highly recommend Jarrolds of Old St.
As for the comment of rudeness in all the times I have gone there the staff and management have been fantastic.Keep up the good work girls and boys!!!!

The receptionist was quite rude but johnny did a great job and blow dry was excellent! Felt very at ease with Johnny as not your usual hairdresser.. he is genuinely interested in his clients needs and a good experience all round. Thank you!

I just had my hair cut at Jarrolds. After reading the terrible reviews I was a bit nervous. I just wanted to post a review to say the hair cut I received from Johnny was spot on. I'm rarely pleased when I come out of a hairdressers so I really thought this was worth a comment. The salon as a whole doesnt look like a slick expensive salon but the cut I received really made up for it. I would say don't go if you're looking for a 5* service but do go and ask for Johnny if you want a great cut.

I went to jarrolds last Saturday on the 26th with my Groupon voucher. I was extremely pleased with both services i had. I had my cut & finish done with lou i think her name was she had a bit shaved and then i had a wax with laura. I told the both i was going on holiday the following day. Laura gave me a wax which isnt always the nicest thing to have but she made it quick and used the least amount of strips i have ever experienced in waxing. It has lasted me my entire holiday. Lou gave me the nicest haircut, perfect looking layers and finished it with big curls that lasted me 48hrs so i still had it the first few days of the holiday. They was both very professional, as i got the treatment put on because i was a little late lou got me downstairs and laura gave me a wax so i still got everything i wanted. I've never tipped so much in a salon but i was happy. I've rebooked with both of them in jan. great service jarrolds.

I've been to this salon a couple of times now with the first visit with a groupon voucher...each time I have been completely satisfied with the treatment I have recieved... I always ask for stephanie as she gives an amazing head massage aswel as a nicely layered cut and finish which tends to last for a few days, I always get fab comments from work colleagues the next day...I came in today with a massive headache and not feeling so well to get my hair washed and blow dryed... Her head and shoulder massage blew me away (considering how small she is i was suprised by all the strength she has in her hands) she left me completely relaxed in fact it got rid of my headache...I love the way she curls my hair no other salon that I have been to can do the style that I like... After my hair was done I headed downstairs to have a manicure with Lauren and she was nice and thorough... I left the salon feeling like a million dollars overall a wonderful experience I feel so much better now

Hi, generally I try and find something positive to say for most places but with Jarrolds it's pretty much impossible. The service was appalling, the staff were surly, unresponsive and completely disinterested in anything I asked for. Like many of the other reviews here, I attended with a groupon deal, and like pretty much all of them I got nothing close to what I asked for. I specifically said to 'Chardonnay' that i didn't want layers at all and lo and behold, I ended up with badly mismatched layers and a haircut that has left me utterly depressed. I understand that group on offers value for money, but if the salon doesn't want to offer full service they should at least be upfront about it rather than tarnishing groupon's brand by using groupon customers as guinea pigs for untrained staff. I think it's pretty clear from the reviews below that the girls cutting group on customers' hair are unskilled trainees, and if that's the level of service I wanted I would go to a proper training school and pay accordingly rather than be lied to about a supposed deal which is clearly a way for an unscrupulous business owner to make a quick buck by conning people into buying haircuts which ultimately destroy their self esteem.
I would beg anyone who's reading this who is in two minds about whether these reviews are genuine or not to think long and hard before wasting their money on a groupon voucher for this place unless you feel like getting a shamefully bad haircut and hiding indoors through the Xmas party season. The people who run it are saying there's some kind of campaign against them but why would anyone bother if they were providing a good service? The only reason people are leaving bad reviews is because they are receiving shocking haircuts and shocking service.
If I could mark this place a zero I would. AVOID like the plague.

I have never felt compelled to write a damning review before, but after my haircut at Jarrolds I feel it's time. I bought a voucher off Groupon for the £22 cutout and conditioning treatment and went along a couple of weeks ago. I requested no layers and to cut it just below the chin, she didn't listened to a word I said and gave me an awful multi-layered monstrosity. I have had to tie my hair up everyday since I got it done, I'm really embarrassed. I can't quite believe Jarrolds have claimed that this is a fictional campaign against them, I'm a real person who is genuinely gutted that I let them touch my hair. Never again.

I have to comment on all the bad reviews, having been going to the salon since it opened and paying full price, the majority of these groupon clients are obviously deluded and only go from salon to salon getting the cheapest deals possible, I have been a loyal customer for years and the owners are so lovely and the staff make an effort with every client! I have seen some of these clients behave so awful to the staff despite their best efforts turn up late and then expect the full treatment. I do recommend the salon and try it for your self, for the price you are paying it is definitely worth every penny, so maybe if these people weren't so cheap they would realise how down to earth and homely this place is!!!

I feel I have to the respond to the statement below from the Jarrolds team because I checked reviews on the business before buying a Groupon voucher for a haircut and decided to give them a chance in the light of such statement, believing that what they said was true, that they were being subject to a hate campaing by fictional customers/reviewers

Jarrolds says (((It has come to our attention that there has bean a number of very negative reviews written about Jarrolds........... We would like to let people know that the majority of these reviews are entirely fictional and that for reasons unknown to us we are being subjected to this campaign of negativity...........We would ask any perspective clients to please read the reviews with a critical eye as it does become obvious just how ludicrous some of them actually are)))

I am a genuine client and had one of the worst haircuts I have ever had in my life, yesterday evening. I wished I had not believe you and want to make certain you do not fool others like.

I asked for a mid-lenght bob: I have half the head layered badly, a good 2 inch step between layers, also at an angle, whilst the other half isn't layered at all. My hair falls just below the ears (if so).......... way shorter than the mid-lenght haircut I asked for. My experience echoes that of others on this site.

If you are reading this, the bad review are not by fictional people. Don't give this place a go like I did. I learnt the hard way the reviewers were actual customers, poor souls like me hard done by this place.

Had a haircut at Jarrolds yesterday. I was left with a step between layers (layers I had not asked for) of a few good inches, at an angle to make matters worse, on my right hand side; the left hand side has no layers.
I'll let you imagine how the disparity looks and feels. Hair is also way shorter that the mid-lenght bob I asked for (no pony tail rescue).
A very very very bad haircut by Chardonnay (sweet girl, meant well, talked the talk but has little knowledge and less skill _ I am being kind here, I could be a lot more damming believe me)
Needless to say I won't be returning to Jarrolds and would not recommend to anyone. Probably others are more experienced and cut hair well. I can only comment on my experience, I feel embarassed I spent money to have this'' done to me

I never normally write reviews but wish I had read some of these here before getting the groupon voucher and making my appointment. Every customer in there also seemed to only have come because of the voucher which was a little worrying as where are all the regular, loyal customers? It wasn't long before I realized why. After clearly explaining that I was growing my hair from a short crop to a bob and just needed it tidying up I was horrified to find that she was hacking it all off by which point it was too late! When I pointed out that I'd asked for it to be graduated at the back, she looked genuinely surprised, so clearly had not listened to anything I said! Walked out absolutely heartbroken as now shorter than it has been for 6 months. Not impressed and won't be going back or recommending this place to anyone.

Avoid at all costs!

I went because I bought a Groupon deal, which included "Wash, Cut and Head Massage Plus Hydrating Conditioning Treatment for £22 at Jarrolds Hair and Beauty (£75 Value)"

When I arrived, the ushered me to a seat, but did not offer me any magazines or to take my jacket. The head massage lasted about 30 seconds... maybe 40 seconds and the hydration conditioning treatment consisted of leaving conditioner in my hair for 5 mins!

I told the hair dresser (her name started with a K and had curly hair) that I liked the style of my hair and I only wanted to trim an inch off the bottom and layers. As she started to cut my hair, I noticed that she had created a "new" shorter layer and was cutting 4 inches off! At this point, I couldn't exactly ask her to stop. She noticed that I looked concerned and said, "I'm taking a little more off the shortest layer" My hair was butchered! I look like a rock star punk! My hair now has a mullet effect! If I try to curl it, it looks like a mushroom!

I wish I read the reviews before I went! I would have just had the girl trim my fringe and enjoyed a wash and dry!

They DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH LAYERS! This place is filled with amateurs and I will never return! I wish I NEVER bought this coupon.

*******PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW********

THIS IS WRITTEN ON BEHALF OF JARROLDS HAIR AND BEAUTY

It has come to our attention that there has bean a number of very negative reviews written about Jarrolds, on this sight and others like it. Whilst we have tried to keep a dignified silence we now feel that we must respond.

We would like to let people know that the majority of these reviews are entirely fictional and that for reasons unknown to us we are being subjected to this campaign of negativity. We have been open for six years and prior to the last eight months you will not be able to find a single negative review.

We are an independent family run business; the salon in Old Street is our only one. We would, of course, like to protect the businesses reputation but not only for ourselves but also for our hard working, talented staff who are genuinely dedicated to their craft and their clients.

At Jarrolds we take all feed back very seriously and welcome any comments or on the rare occasions, complaints. We feel that by gaining this valuable feedback we can use it to improve and only get better.

We would ask any genuine clients who feel that we were not at our best when they visited the salon to please get in touch and any perspective clients to please read the reviews with a critical eye as it does become obvious just how ludicrous some of them actually are.

Thank you for taking the time to read this statement,

From all the team at Jarrolds

After visiting this salon for the first time last week, I cannot fault the services I received at all.
I was booked in for a manicure and pedicure with Jo. After arriving I was greeted with warm welcomes from the front desk, not only by staff but from the Managers too, which I thought was lovely.
I was offered a drink whilst I waited, due to being early for my appointment. The atmosphere in the salon was amazing, the staff all seemed to be one big happy family.
Jo then came to greet me, and took me downstairs. She was great, made me feel very relaxed. The end result was amazing, and I will definitely be back. Oh,even my friends commented on what a great job Jo had done. Great job Jo, thank you.

Bought the offer on groupon and went yesterday night. The girl that was cutting my hair didn’t even know how to divide my head in sections, she was terrified about cutting my hair and at the end she didn’t cut them much _ thank God for that_
At one point she went to check her book in how doing layers.
She didn’t manage to dry my hair either and her brush kept getting twisted in my air.
I left with my head wet as next customer was there waiting
I spoke to the manager of the shop and she was so rude , unprofessional and aggressive that by mistake i forgot my phone there! 5 min later when i went to picked it up she smiled at me and told me that "no, honey, I didn’t find it, did i????"

Lord, do not go there, it’s an evil place!

I have been to Jarrolds a 5 times now and am shocked to read some of the reviews as every time I have been they have been proffessional and fun and friendly and given me amazing hair cuts. The only time I had to wait was 15 mins and i recieved a free paint and varnish because of this. The first 2 times I went was with a group on voucher and the service has been the same as when I have paid full price. I would definatley reccomend this salon to my friends and have already booked my xmas styling for the office party.

I had an amazing facial at this salon, i thought i would give it ago as i have just moved into the area.

My skin feels fantastic and i have received lots of comments saying how fresh i look! not to mention how relaxed it made me feel. Worth every penny.

I'm really glad to have such a nice family run local business. I haven't tried the hairdressing dept but i had a really good consultation with Nicola and cant see why that wont be fantastic too. She was really attentive and got what i was trying to tell her even in my muddled up way of telling her.

Kirsty cut my hair, I had also booked this on groupon, she was very pleasant and told me that she never cuts more than agreed with the client - well she suggested layers, which caqn work on my curly hair but not the way she has done them!

One side of my hair is long and heavily thinned out with a great chunk of hair above it, like a huge step that constantly falls in my face! the other side is partly layered, but the important part is - the two sides are different!one side more layered and the other generally and obviously longer! very odd -

It became apparant to me after washing it at home, that i cannot wear my hair curly - it will look ridiculous! - I have never bothered to write a review before but this is the worst hir cut i have ever had - worst still i spoke to a friend at work today - who lives near me and near this salon - who said remember when i got that bad colour? it was at Jarolds!!!

maybe they go on Groupon a lot because they cannot get people to rebook so need to generate new business all the time????

I went also with a KGB voucher, but I was very happy!
I had a conditioning treatment with a cut, blowdry and hot iron finish.
The salon was nicely decorated, and the girl doing my hair was lovely. I got a great haircut at a fantastic value, so when I'm in the area again I'll be going back, even if it means paying a bit more than before.

I went to this salon with the £22 Groupon voucher. I had previously been here for bikini waxes, and always had a good experience, so didn't think twice about getting a hair cut. It turned out to be a disaster!
I brought in pictures of exactly what I wanted and showed them to the stylist (her name was something like Kirsty or Christie). The pictures were of Cheryl Cole's most recent hair cut, and Amanda Holden from the 2010 BGT final. My hair when I went in was shoulder length with a few layers in the front and all one length in the back. We had a long chat about how I wanted some layers in the back and I specifically said I did not want more layers in the front. She then gave me the most ridiculous angular bob with super short hair in the back, and layers all over my head, including the front. My hair looked NOTHING like the pictures I showed her or what we had discussed. She also botched the short bits, by cutting a section of hair shorter than all the rest, so I look like I have a "dent" in the back of my head.
I had never cried over a hair cut until this day. The stylist's complete disregard for what I asked for was shocking. I've never written a bad review in my life. My recommendation is to avoid this salon at all costs.

This salon advertises itself as having high standards of customer service. Ironic then that the woman in charge was quite possibly one of the rudest women I have ever encountered working in customer service. I travelled over an hour to this salon for highlights, cut and blow dry, an offer I bought on Groupon.

I had rung the day before to book the appointment and explained on the phone to this particular woman that I had a groupon voucher. All fine. When I arrived and was sat in the chair ready to have my highlights started, the stylist asked if I had a groupon voucher. I said yes. She disappeared and returned with said rude woman (I presume she is in charge, either that or they are all just afraid of her). This woman told me abruptly I could not have highlights and that my voucher was not valid at their salon. She spoke to me like I was trying to steal something from them, as if I was sneakily trying to get a cheap deal from them. She then simply walked off leaving me sat in the chair with my gown still on. I had to get up and walk across the salon to speak to her and find out why exactly my voucher was not valid. She simply barked at me that Groupon should've told me the error before I arrived. She even had the cheek to say she always checks with clients on the phone before they book what type of voucher they have. Now she was just lying as I had only called the day before and she said nothing about my Groupon voucher not being valid. The fault lies with Groupon who were very apologetic and refunded me immediately adding £10 credit to my account for travel costs. However this woman was so unbelievably rude that I felt more aggrieved by her than by my wasted journey. Her behaviour was embarrassing, I couldn't believe she spoke to me like that in front of her clients. I never write reviews but I was so shocked by how awful this woman could be with people. I strongly advise against giving this woman your business. Plenty of friendlier salons out there.

Hi,

I made an appointment two weeks ago using the groupon voucher with Jarrolds. Unfortunately I have an urgent meeting which has come up and I called this morning to cancel. They have no voice mail service or email so you can place cancellations. I finally got through before my appointment to cancel and reschedule. The man who answered advised that the voucher becomes "VOID" if you cancel and you can not reschedule. I have now asked Groupon for a refund. Given the reviews below regarding the manicure and pedicure it was probably a blessing in disguise.

I work in the area and it could have been a regular appointment had they offered good service to start with. They have lost one customer but also many more now as this is not how you earn business.

My sister and I bought a manicure and pedicure off Grupon and it was possibly the worst experience ever. Would not recommend it to anyone. It took us about 6 months to get an appointment, and then unfortuntely we arrived 10 minutes late and so I was told that I would not be able to have a full manicure and pedicure, and that I could only have one or the other. I totally accept that arriving late was no fault of theirs, however, I was most annoyed when my mani-pedi experience ended 10 minutes EARLY! So in fact, not only did they not give me the 10 minutes (which was my fault for arriving late), but they also cut off 10minutes of my treatment. Additionally, we were not offered a drink, as stated in the grupon voucher. To add insult to injury, the job was not done properly - I could have done what the therapist did myself in about 20minutes.

Went to have my hair done. The lady who did it was just like any other unprofessional hairdresser. Head massage before cut?? I had a girl who just took 1 second to touch the oil on my head and a 2 second shoulder squeeze!!! No advice given for hairstyle so I decided on an appropriate cut and of course, she did what she wanted and not as I requested "total rubbish". 1 star given for the drink offered. Another unhappy customer. Will never go there again and that's a promise.
