Clapham Common Jobcentre
Job Centre at Maritime House, Old Town
There are many Jobcentres which are located nationwide. Working within the Department of Education and Employment, they aim to provide a wide range of jobs for those who are actively seeking employment.
I`ve been on JSA for a year now and it has taken this long to build up a rapport with staff. It seems that they take on too much to deal with effectively , and end up rushing through what should be an ideal opportunity to discuss our problems and find appropriate solutions.
The team are generally fine , but the atmosphere is uncomfortable.
I've been forced to use this job centre and have to agree that not only does nobody care about customers, real advice is hard to come by and sometimes just plain wrong, which might get you in a lot of finanial trouble and stress as you did what they told you. Don't expect much help with anything.
As a first time user I have been consistently unimpressed by the arrogant reception.
The security staff are abrupt and bossy , the advisors (bar one or two) are curt, unpleasant and unhelpful.Perhaps this is all to get us back to work with a vengeance !
Getting through on the phone is a waste of time as others have said.
The Jobsearch engine needs serious fine-tuning , and no tuition is given right at the start to get the best use of this mandatory monster. Good luck to anyone applying.....
I have never come across a more shambolic place to visit. Everyone is clueless, and I leave feeling utterly helpless. I'm 37, have over 16 years' experience, am well educated but I'm a victim of a very poor job market where my type of job is really competitive, and temping work is lax. They just don't care about your efforts to get work and put you down at every single opportunity. Their phone manner is also disgraceful and I often up wondering if I am actually speaking to a human or a vegetable. One actually kept calling me 'Mate' once. That really ****ed me off.
This is the most unprofessional outfit that I have ever come across - nobody knows what they are doing, they have nobody that can discus specific industry focussed jobs. The jobs here are generic and not for post university candidates - I'm still in shock at the lack of knowledge about the labour market from the employees and general misunderstanding of how to place graduates.
Absolutely shocking.
Agree with other comments - ringing them is impossible - was on the phone 44 minutes and then the phone just went dead - annoying and frustrating.
