When I phoned to enquire as to the availability of a particular item, a "dutch oven" style pot, the conversation went as follows:
==
"Fairfax."
"Yes, I was calling to enquire as to whether you might carry a couple of items that I'm looking for. Do you keep in stock 5 quart dutch oven pots?"
"No, no. We don't carry that sort of thing. We only carry accessories."
"Oh, I see. So you don't carry pots and pans?"
"Of course we carry pots and pans. Look, we're very busy. Can you just come in or phone back later?"
==
Given how rude the woman on the phone was over simple enquiry, I'm not at all keen on the idea of giving my money to such an establishment. I'm very supportive, typically, of supporting small independent businesses, but courtesy and service are a prerequisite to that support, and Fairfax seems to offer neither.

While they do stock a lot of great items, the atmosphere is cold and odd. The two women there have a habit of making you feel like they're doing you a favour. When in fact you are, considering their prices.
These are way in excess of both the internet and places like John Lewis, for the same items. A large earthenware mixing bowl for example was three times the price it is in John Lewis. I know they're a small independent but that smacks of rip off.
Last time I was in one of the women annoyingly hovered behind me while I was browsing - when all that was needed was a polite 'let me know if you need anymore help'....
They have no idea how to deal with customers. I can only think they don't need the money! I;m amazed it actually keeps going.
Good for emergency purchases - avoid otherwise.
