I hate to do this and I don't really like these 'review' sites as I think they can be too vindictive but I want to review this place as (a) I used to really like it AND recommended it to everyone as being 'an affordable Good earth!' and (b) I hope they'll read it and take it to heart..
Anyway..China World used to be great! I used to drag people away from their usual (I don't live in the immediate vicinity), order, go for a pint in the Beatty pub over the road and then wait for the plaudits to roll in for knowing such a good secret. Then a spell of being away and cutting down on the take-aways (I know...ask my GP!!) meant that I hadn't ordered from there for some time but have done so a few times in the last couple of months and....well...the first one I put down to bad luck - we all have bad days sometimes. The second time I made a mental note to mention it next time I was there. But I'm a bit of a weed so I didn't and then, on the third revisit half of it ended up in my kitchen bin. Singapore noodles?? Are they supposed to be grey and taste of burnt oil? A grilled chicken dish? Swimming in...actually I'm not sure what it was but it wasn't good! Salt and pepper ribs? My GP would have had a stroke just looking at it - almost pure fat hanging on some bones. Won Ton soup? My favourite and eaten in Chinese restaurants from Soho to New York...here it was a ladle of chicken stock cube with a few ropey won ton floating in it.
I'm sorry but I have put so much more effort into writing this than went into their cooking and that's just not right.
I really, really want to hear that C.W. has improved and that I can come back here and retract all I've written and praise it but until that time this is my humble review. Sorry guys - perhaps the worst thing I can say is that the food at China World is now worse than that at The Great Wall in Raynes Park which was a family joke even back in the seventies when I was a teenager!
