Silk Maker

I used to live a few doors from Silk Maker, and it is one of the best Chinese places I've ever been to. Great prices, especially their single person box meals, and the service was always very polite. Don't be fooled by their humble appearance; I haven't lived in Crouch End for a while now, but I still compare Chinese food to their prices and quality!

The food's all right, but the business itself actually ripped me off. I was using Silk Maker predominantly for their stamp bonus system. You could bank up these coupon stamps and get free dishes on an order if you had enough stamps (every five pounds spent earned you one stamp). When it came time to cash these in, they informed me that they weren't honouring the coupons because of new management.

Considering my frequent patronage of Silk Maker, this felt like a big middle finger.

It should also be mentioned that their Sesame Toast gave me massive stomach problems the last time I ordered there. Beware shellfish in this place!

Easily the best Chinese takeaway in North London. Doesn't look like much but don't be fooled. The salt n pepper squid is fab, so are the huge range of sauces. Love it!
